Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline foodservice distributor committed to serving a diverse clientele including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As a well-established distributor, Performance Foodservice prides itself on not only delivering high-quality food products but also offering valuable expertise through a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other professionals. This team works closely with customers to enhance their operations by advising on menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. The company's dedication goes beyond food delivery—it aims to empower independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators to achieve their business goals and dreams through exceptional service and partnership.
This opportunity is for experienced food and foodservice delivery drivers who play a vital role in maintaining the nation’s food supply chain. The drivers at Performance Foodservice are instrumental in ensuring that food products reach customers safely, punctually, and in excellent condition, embodying the company’s commitment to reliability and customer service. The position is based on a Monday through Friday schedule with dispatch hours from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., offering an average annual salary of around $70,000. This role features competitive pay and comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among others.
In this role, delivery drivers handle various types of transportation tasks including operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes. Responsibilities encompass local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR) assignments, shuttle runs, overnight deliveries, and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers are expected to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations rigorously, perform safety and vehicle inspections, and ensure all products are securely loaded and delivered in a timely and professional manner. They also represent the face of the company by fostering professional and positive interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
Key duties include conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify the safety and condition of trucks and trailers, reporting any safety issues or maintenance needs immediately, checking freight counts and accompanying invoices, completing accurate paperwork for all deliveries, and ensuring proper securement of all cargo. Additionally, drivers unload products at customer locations, perform damage control checks, secure appropriate signatures for deliveries, handle monetary transactions where required, and maintain cleanliness and order in trucks and loading areas.
Safety and professionalism are paramount throughout all duties, as drivers follow safety protocols and company policies to maintain a secure and inclusive working environment. This environment is grounded in mutual respect, recognition, and rewarding hard work. Other general responsibilities include housekeeping tasks related to the vehicle and workspace, completing logs to comply with federal and state regulations, and performing additional tasks as assigned by management.
To qualify for this demanding yet rewarding role, candidates must have at least twelve months of commercial driving experience, a valid CDL Class A license, and meet all relevant state licensing or certification requirements. They must be at least 21 years old and possess a clean motor vehicle record for the past three years. Candidates are required to pass a post-offer drug test, criminal background check, and road test. Holding a valid DOT health card or the ability to secure one is mandatory. Physical ability is important since the role involves handling and moving product cases that range from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.
Performance Foodservice takes pride in its values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants without discrimination. The company strictly follows local, state, and federal laws to protect all individuals in the workplace, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for employees of all backgrounds. By joining Performance Foodservice, candidates become part of a company dedicated to delivering excellence not only in food service but in workplace culture and employee welfare.
