Job Description
About the Company and Role
This established transportation company, specializing in port and rail freight operations in the Newark, New Jersey area, is seeking skilled CDL A Port & Rail Truck Drivers to join their team on the 2nd shift. With a solid reputation for reliability and consistent freight assignments, this company offers a stable environment where drivers can maximize their earnings through competitive incentives, predictable home-daily routes, and a family-oriented work culture. They emphasize a driver-first mentality, ensuring that every driver is respected and supported with clear communication and a friendly management team.
The Role
As a CDL A Port & Rail Truck Driver, your primary responsibility will be to handle container work throughout major port terminals and rail yards in North Jersey, including Port Newark, Port Elizabeth, Newark Airport cargo district, various local rail yards, and regional warehouses. This is a no-touch intermodal freight position, ideal for experienced drivers familiar with drayage, container hauling, and intermodal trucking. The job offers a 2nd shift schedule with hours from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM dispatch times, Monday through Friday with optional Saturday shifts for those seeking extra income. Typical shift lengths range from 10 to 12 hours.
This position offers strong earning potential, with an average weekly pay ranging from $1,600 to $1,700. Drivers receive hourly base pay for all on-duty time, along with stackable incentive pay for port stops, rail yard stops, load mileage, occasional NYC runs, and optional hazmat work. The company prioritizes consistent freight to ensure drivers have the opportunity to maximize their income each shift while operating in a supportive and family-first work atmosphere.
Applicants must hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and possess a TWIC card with a minimum of 12 months of verified port and rail experience within the past five years. Additionally, 18 to 24 months tractor/trailer driving experience within the last five years is required. The employer values a clean and acceptable motor vehicle record, permitting only one at-fault accident, alongside a stable and consistent work history. This is a critical role for anyone with experience navigating North Jersey’s port and rail intermodal routes, offering immediate benefits and clear pathways for consistent employment and pay advancement.
