Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a prominent broadline food distributor renowned for its strong relationships with a diverse clientele including independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company distinguishes itself by not only delivering high-quality food products but also offering value-added services such as sales expertise, culinary consultation, menu development advice, and operational support. This holistic approach helps local businesses thrive by enhancing their operational efficiency and menu offerings, creating a partnership that goes beyond simple product delivery.
The role of the CDL-A Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is essential within the food supply chain, where timely and safe delivery of products is critical to maintaining customer satisfaction and operational excellence. This full-time position offers a competitive salary, averaging between $80,000 and $90,000 annually, with a Monday through Friday schedule that supports work-life balance by ensuring drivers are home daily. Additionally, the position offers a significant sign-on bonus of up to $15,000, paid out as $500 weekly for the first 30 weeks, reflecting the company’s commitment to attracting and rewarding experienced drivers.
The CDL-A Delivery Driver is responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes that may include local, intrastate, interstate, shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop deliveries. This diverse route structure ensures variety in the daily work while fostering strong connections with customers through consistent, reliable service. Drivers act as the face of the company and are expected to carry out their duties in a professional manner that reflects the company’s dedication to service excellence.
Key responsibilities include conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, ensuring the vehicle and trailer meet safety standards, and reporting any safety or maintenance issues promptly. Drivers must secure freight properly, verify delivery quantities, obtain customer signatures, and process payment collection when required. Beyond transportation duties, drivers also assist with unloading and loading freight, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of their equipment, and completing accurate paperwork to document deliveries and hours of service.
Performance Foodservice emphasizes safety, compliance, and teamwork, encouraging drivers to engage with customers, vendors, and colleagues professionally and cooperatively. The company also invests in the well-being of its employees by offering comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Career growth opportunities within the company underscore the essential nature of delivery drivers in America’s food distribution system.
Individuals interested in this role should have at least one year of commercial driving experience and hold a valid CDL-A license. Candidates must meet state licensing requirements, provide a clean motor vehicle record, pass drug tests and background checks, and be capable of physical tasks including hand-lifting and operating equipment to manage freight weighing between 10 and 90 pounds. Drivers must also secure a DOT health card and pass a road test.
Performance Foodservice fosters an inclusive and respectful workplace in alignment with its Equal Employment Opportunity policies, ensuring that all employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic. The company encourages applicants who are motivated, safety-conscious, and customer-service oriented to join their team and contribute to delivering not just food, but success for independent foodservice operators across the country.
