Job Description

Smithfield Foods, a leading American food company, is recognized for its dominant position in the packaged meats and fresh pork products industry. Established with a commitment to quality and sustainability, Smithfield has built a reputation as a trusted provider of a wide range of meat products consumed by millions across the United States and beyond. As a company that values its workforce, Smithfield Foods offers numerous opportunities for individuals seeking meaningful careers in the food production and delivery sectors. With a strong emphasis on safety, training, and employee growth, Smithfield consistently strives to maintain a supportive and inclusive work environment where employees can thrive and advance.

Currently, Smithfield Foods is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals in North Carolina to join their team as Feed Delivery Drivers with a CDL A license. This role is essential to the company’s operations, ensuring that feed important for livestock welfare is delivered safely and efficiently to various facilities. The position offers competitive compensation, starting at $21.75 hourly after the training period, which translates to an annual salary of approximately $75,000. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who meet the CDL requirements and have at least one year of commercial driving experience.

The Feed Delivery Driver role involves operating large commercial vehicles, requiring precision, vigilance, and adherence to robust safety protocols. Candidates will undergo a comprehensive 5-7 week training program designed to equip them with the necessary skills to operate effectively within the company guidelines and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers will be responsible for the careful delivery of animal feed, loading and unloading cargo, and ensuring that animal welfare standards are upheld throughout the transportation process. Smithfield Foods emphasizes compliance with all DOT rules and receiving agent directives, along with prompt accident reporting and continuous safety awareness.

In addition to the vital operational responsibilities, this role demands physical capabilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds and maneuvering trailers and equipment, including handling manual transmission tractors and performing essential pre-trip vehicle inspections. Candidates must also be able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic nature of the agricultural and food supply industries.

Smithfield Foods welcomes applicants who bring a high school diploma or GED, a current Class A CDL, a clean driving record, and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card. The company fosters an equal opportunity workplace environment, encouraging diversity and providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. Joining Smithfield Foods means being part of a company dedicated not just to producing excellent products but to building a workforce committed to growth, safety, and integrity. This role offers a promising career path within a well-established industry leader, packed with professional development, competitive pay, and the satisfaction of contributing to a critical segment of the food supply chain.
