The role of Catering / Special Events Supervisor at Well; by Durst, 151, a dynamic venue dedicated to wellbeing and social connection, is critical in ensuring the flawless execution of catered events, banquets, and special functions. This supervisor is responsible for overseeing event logistics, managing event staff, and guaranteeing exceptional service delivery. The position involves close collaboration with Catering, Culinary, Stewarding, Facilities, and other operational teams to ensure events occur safely, efficiently, and meet company standards. This role demands a strong commitment to providing memorable guest experiences while upholding the highest hospitality and professionalism standards.

The supervisor supports every stage of event execution—from planning and setup to breakdown—ensuring that event spaces meet specifications and service standards. They coordinate logistics including the movement and setup of equipment, furniture, beverages, and supplies with a focus on seamless event operation. Acting as a primary contact during events, the supervisor promptly addresses guest and client needs, monitors event quality, and partners with relevant departments to overcome any challenges. They keep inventories of equipment and materials, enforce food safety and workplace protocols, and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving service quality and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the supervisor leads and manages event staff including banquet, catering, and special events personnel. This includes conducting pre-event briefings, providing real-time coaching, monitoring performance, coordinating labor deployment, and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and excellent guest service. Compliance with company policies and safety reporting is mandatory, ensuring a professional and secure experience for all involved.

The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of experience in banquet operations, catering, or special events, with supervisory experience preferred. A ServSafe Food Handler Certification is required, with the Manager Certification as a plus. Skills in leadership, organization, communication, and inventory management are essential, alongside the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume hospitality environment. This full-time position, based at Well; by Durst in New York City, offers a competitive hourly wage of $25, complemented by a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and a 401(k) plan. Physical demands include the ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.   • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in banquet operations, catering, special events, or upscale food and beverage service
  • Active ServSafe Food Handler Certification
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and event days
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, reach, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds regularly
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and reliability

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in a high-volume hospitality, attraction, hotel, convention center, stadium, arena, or special events environment preferred

Job Duties

  • Support the planning, coordination, setup, execution, and breakdown of catered events, banquets, receptions, and special functions
  • Ensure event spaces are properly prepared and maintained in accordance with event specifications, service standards, and guest expectations
  • Coordinate the movement, setup, and return of equipment, furniture, beverages, smallwares, and event supplies
  • Serve as a primary operational contact during assigned events and respond promptly to guest, client, and event coordinator requests
  • Monitor event operations to ensure service quality, cleanliness, organization, and adherence to established standards
  • Partner with Catering, Culinary, Stewarding, Facilities, Security, and other departments to ensure seamless event execution
  • Assist in resolving guest concerns, service challenges, and operational issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain inventories of assigned equipment, supplies, beverages, and event-related materials
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and company policies and procedures
  • Support departmental initiatives designed to improve service quality, operational efficiency, and guest satisfaction
  • Attend and actively participate in all required meetings, trainings, and event briefings
  • Report all workplace injuries, illnesses, unsafe conditions, and safety incidents in accordance with company policy, including same-day reporting through Origami Risk
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
  • Lead pre-event roll calls and communicate event details, service expectations, staffing assignments, safety considerations, and operational updates
  • Supervise banquet, catering, and special event staff during event setup, service, and breakdown activities
  • Provide real-time coaching, and direction to team members to ensure successful event execution
  • Monitor employee performance, professionalism, appearance, attendance, and adherence to company standards
  • Coordinate work assignments and labor deployment to ensure efficient staffing and service delivery
  • Supervise housepersons, stewarding personnel, and other support staff assigned to event operations
  • Partner with department leadership to address performance, conduct, attendance, and operational concerns
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and guest service excellence
  • Ensure all safety incidents are properly documented and reported in accordance with company policy
