Amherst College is currently seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Catering Wait Staff and Bartenders for its Amherst Campus. This position is a part-time, casual role offering up to 19 hours per week with a salary range of $16.00 to $19.00 per hour. There are no provided benefits with this position, which operates on an on-call basis to accommodate the varied schedule of campus events, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Catering Wait Staff and Bartenders play a critical role in supporting the dining and catering services of the College by ensuring high-quality food and beverage service at a wide variety of events such as banquet dinners, receptions, and large gatherings. This role reports directly to the Catering Manager and Catering Assistant Manager.
The Catering Wait Staff and Bartenders are entrusted with creating a warm and professional atmosphere for all guests, emphasizing excellent customer service and adherence to safe food handling standards. Staff members over the age of 18 will receive training to serve alcohol responsibly and bartend at events as needed. Responsibilities also include setting up and breaking down event spaces, which involves moving tables, chairs, and banquet equipment, as well as cleaning and vacuuming event areas. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility and availability to work on short notice are essential qualities. Individuals in this role must maintain a professional appearance and display a positive work ethic as they frequently interact with a diverse range of individuals including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.

Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years or older
- Available to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends
- Must have professional appearance and positive work ethic
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
- Successful completion of required reference and background checks
- Acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
Job Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Well-spoken and outgoing personality
- Some service experience is beneficial but training will be provided
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test

- ServSafe certification preferred
- TIP'S certification in Massachusetts preferred
- Two or more years of experience in a restaurant or banquet setting preferred
Job Duties
- Establish a warm welcome and professional atmosphere for guests by giving ultimate service and cooperation
- Ensure all food and beverages are served in a timely manner with safe food handling practices
- Serve alcohol and bartend events as needed for staff over 18 years of age
- Meet a schedule that is subject to changes on short notice
- Abide by all policies and procedures set forth by the manager
- Assist with moving tables, chairs, and banquet equipment for event setup and breakdown
- Clean and vacuum event spaces
