The role of Catering Wait Staff and Bartenders at Amherst College is a part-time, casual position designed to support the dining services department by ensuring high-quality service at various campus events and functions. This position offers up to 19 hours per week with a flexible schedule that includes weekday evenings and weekends. Catering Wait Staff and Bartenders report to the Catering Manager and Assistant Catering Manager and play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service during banquet dinners, receptions, large campus events, and deliveries. Duties include providing a warm, professional welcome to guests, timely and safe serving of food and beverages, and assistance with setup and breakdown of event spaces. Staff members who are over 18 years old receive training to serve alcohol and perform bartender duties as needed, making this position versatile and engaging. As an on-call position, it requires adaptability and readiness to work on short notice, accommodating the fluctuating needs of the College's event schedule.   • Two or more years of experience in restaurant or banquet settings preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide a warm welcome and professional atmosphere for guests
  • Serve food and beverages in a timely manner with safe food handling practices
  • Bartend and serve alcohol as needed for staff over 18 years old
  • Assist with moving tables, chairs, and banquet equipment for event setup and breakdown
  • Clean and vacuum event spaces
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by the catering manager
  • Adapt to schedule changes and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
