The full-time Catering Sous Chef position at Louisiana State University's South Stadium Drive Administrative Support Building is an exciting opportunity within the campus dining services, particularly under the stewardship of Chartwells Higher Ed, a reputable food service provider known for its commitment to quality and innovation in food production. This role is vital in the kitchen hierarchy, directly assisting the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes that meet approved recipes and production standards. The Sous Chef acts as a pivotal supervisory figure, coordinating the activities of cooks and other food-service staff to ensure smooth operations even in the absence of the Executive Chef.
Candidates will benefit from competitive pay ranging from $18.00 to $22.00 per hour and will have a work schedule that varies according to operational needs, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment. The job demands culinary expertise with at least 2-3 years of cooking experience, and supervisory experience is preferred. This position offers a unique chance to work in a setting focused on career growth, learning, and meaningful impact within a supportive team environment. Employees are encouraged to make a difference in the campus community by delivering satisfying food experiences while adhering to stringent food safety and sanitation standards.
In addition to day-to-day cooking responsibilities, the Catering Sous Chef will oversee personnel management tasks such as interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, and performance reviews, building a strong and efficient kitchen team. The position requires diligent monitoring of inventory, product deliveries, and waste management to maintain cost control and operational efficiency. Interaction with customers is an important aspect, requiring a friendly and service-oriented approach to address and resolve complaints and relay relevant feedback to supervisors.
Applicants will enjoy various benefits including opportunities for training and development, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, insurance options, and flexible spending accounts. The role supports those passionate about culinary arts and leadership within a reputable educational institution's food service operations. Prospective Catering Sous Chefs will find an inclusive, diverse workplace culture where respect, fairness, and professional growth are emphasized, aligning with Louisiana State University's overarching values and commitments.
