Situated in Pittsburgh, PA, Common Plea Catering excels in providing diverse menu options tailored to client needs, focusing on consistency, quality, and customer satisfaction. The company maintains a strong commitment to culinary excellence and teamwork, striving to uphold its reputation through meticulous food preparation and superior kitchen operations. As a key player in the food service and catering industry, Common Plea Catering offers a structured and supportive work environment that encourages professional growth and continuous culinary innovation.
The Production Sous Chef plays a critical role within Common Plea Catering, reporting directly to the Executive Chef and Vice President of Culinary. This full-time position is designed for an experienced culinary professional who is passionate about maintaining high standards and ensuring that all food production aligns with the company’s quality and consistency benchmarks. The hourly rate commensurates with experience, starting from $25.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of skilled leadership in the kitchen.
In this role, the Production Sous Chef is responsible for supervising daily kitchen operations and production activities, acting as the vital link between the Executive Chef and the kitchen staff. The position requires maintaining clear communication of daily production schedules and agendas, managing food deliveries with attention to quality and proper temperature, and utilizing the Total Party Planner software to streamline operations (training provided if needed). The chef must be well-versed in all menu items and closing procedures, ensuring a seamless workflow throughout each catering event.
Leadership and team management are vital components of this role. The Production Sous Chef supports staff training to promote culinary consistency, fosters a positive and collaborative kitchen environment, and upholds sanitation and cleanliness standards rigorously. Inventory management is also part of the responsibilities, requiring weekly and monthly checks on food and cleaning supplies and strict adherence to the FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation principle.
Physical capability is essential, as the position demands standing for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Adaptability to a fast-paced kitchen environment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are equally important. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and a dependable work ethic, ensuring the success and efficiency of catering operations.
The role is based in-person in Pittsburgh, PA, encouraging candidates to preferably reside locally or relocate prior to starting work. The company offers valuable employee benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan. Joining Common Plea Catering as a Production Sous Chef means becoming an integral part of a professional and dedicated culinary team committed to excellence in every dish served.
