The role of Catering Server at Canterbury Park is a key position within the hospitality team, responsible for delivering exceptional service at catered events across the venue. Earning $17 per hour plus a service charge, this part-time position includes opportunities for paid time off, floating holidays, and holiday premium pay. In this role, the Catering Server is expected to maintain buffet areas, assist senior catering staff, manage set-up and tear-down of service stations, and collaborate closely with the culinary team to ensure timely food replenishment. The server must also complete requisition forms to facilitate efficient preparation for subsequent events. Beyond operational tasks, this role focuses on fostering teamwork, maintaining morale, and upholding the values embedded within the Canterbury Way, emphasizing a culture of fun, collaboration, and high standards. The position requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and involves physical activity such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Job Requirements

  • Must have 2 years or more of experience in Catering and Events or related field or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved
  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • providing exceptional service to our guests during events
  • must be willing to pitch in with other departments based on business need
  • must be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • must be able to pass Canterbury Park’s pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check and verification of work history
  • must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license

Job Qualifications

  • Must have 2 years or more of experience in Catering and Events or related field or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved
  • providing exceptional service to guests during events
  • must be willing to pitch in with other departments based on business need
  • must be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license
  • previous cash handling experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Lead by example
  • responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times
  • create high levels of morale, foster teamwork, inspire collaboration, and provide suggestions for growth to management
  • monitor and maintain the buffet in their assigned area
  • assist Catering Server II with all levels of service
  • execute catered events such as live racing events, plated, buffet, stations and butler passed style of service events while under direct supervision by the Catering management team and culinary supervisory staff
  • set-up and tear down buffets, table settings, beverage stations, chef performance stations and other service styles
  • work closely with the culinary team to ensure food is replenished timely
  • ensure requisition forms are completed to prep for the next day’s needs
  • maintain prompt and courteous customer service to all guests throughout the day
  • perform all other duties as assigned
