Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two or more years of catering/event sales experience in a similar sized hotel or resort
- Ability to sell public space, food and beverage, and function planning services
- Strong negotiation and closing skills
- Ability to maintain guest satisfaction
- Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays, weekends and alternate shifts
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Professional appearance
- Ability to remain calm and solve problems in high pressure situations
- Ability to use discretion with sensitive information
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality desired
- Two or more years of related catering/event sales experience in a hotel, resort or winery operation
- Experience working with multicultural weddings or events desired
- Knowledge of cost control measures related to events and meetings
- Solid knowledge of hotel service standards, guest relations and etiquette
- Ability and experience in a high volume, time-sensitive sales environment
- Ability to follow and maintain effective sales processes
- Strong sales techniques with skills in negotiation and closing sales
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to solve problems and remain calm under pressure
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications and ability to learn hotel systems
- Proficiency with DELPHI preferred
- Professional appearance and demeanor
Job Duties
- Actively solicits new business opportunities through prospecting new customers including groups, travel managers, travel agents and consumers
- Uses network channels to open doors to new customers
- Participates in industry related organizations, trade shows, community events and sales blitzes
- Develops long-term relationships with clients or potential clients by maintaining consistent verbal and written communications
- Analyzes business requirements, researches market trends and responds to RFPs
- Prepares function planning details such as space, menus and decor
- Maintains detailed client information in computer systems
- Attends business review meetings and conducts familiarization trips
- Responds to guest inquiries and coordinates special arrangements
- Resolves guest complaints within scope of authority and reports unusual events to management
