The role of Catering Sales Manager at The Westin Cleveland is a pivotal position tasked with managing catering accounts to not only achieve but exceed guest satisfaction and revenue objectives. This role involves actively soliciting new business, nurturing relationships with existing clients, and leveraging strategic sales skills to maximize hotel revenue streams, including food, beverage, and room rental segments. Successful candidates will combine a customer-centric approach with a strong aptitude for sales techniques such as forecasting, budgeting, yield management, and competitive analysis. As a Catering Sales Manager, you will engage in a variety of business development activities including telephone prospecting, site inspections, outside sales calls, and formal presentations. You will work collaboratively with banquet and culinary teams to create innovative menus and function setups that align with client needs and maximize profitability. Your knowledge of A/V equipment and its role as a profit center will enable smooth event execution and enhance client satisfaction. Your participation in trade shows, industry organizations like NACE and MPI, and community initiatives will expand your professional network and create new booking opportunities. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year catering sales experience
  • Experience at a similar size and quality hotel
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Delphi
  • Knowledge of sales techniques and revenue management
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work under time constraints
  • Availability to comply with attendance rules

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in hospitality with specific catering sales experience
  • Minimum of 1 year in catering sales
  • Experience at a similar size and quality hotel
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Delphi
  • Advanced sales skills including revenue management and peer motivation
  • Knowledge of hotel features and competing hotels within the market
  • Understanding of hotel operations including marketing, security, personnel relations, business planning, and quality assurance
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with adaptability to different audiences

Job Duties

  • Solicit new and existing accounts to meet and exceed revenue goals through telephone prospecting, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication
  • Understand both monthly forecasting and the annual budget process, as well as pace and productivity
  • Utilize yield management skills and historical data evaluation
  • Evaluate every catering business opportunity to maximize revenue and profitability while achieving customer expectations
  • Research competition’s products, services and pricing to develop strategic business plans
  • Maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel including room rental, A/V and other revenue generation opportunities
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships to consistently book repeat business
  • Participate actively in industry-related organizations and community activities to maintain awareness and create booking opportunities
  • Demonstrate sales techniques including closing and negotiating skills
  • Conduct hotel site inspections and client presentations
  • Participate in trade shows and sales blitzes
  • Develop creative menus and innovative function setups in collaboration with the culinary team
  • Coordinate with banquet department on operations and event execution
  • Provide direction, coordination, and evaluation of catering event operations
  • Manage A/V equipment as a profit center
  • Utilize computer skills, specifically Delphi, Word, and Excel
  • Monitor market trends, competition, and key hotel customers
  • Collaborate with outside vendors to ensure client satisfaction
  • Comply with attendance rules and availability
  • Perform other assigned job-related duties
