The role we are hiring for is a Catering Sales Manager position, which is crucial for driving our catering revenue and maintaining strong client relationships. You will be responsible for managing catering accounts with the goal of achieving outstanding guest satisfaction while also soliciting new and repeat business to meet or exceed revenue targets. Your leadership in this role will focus on food, beverage, and room rental segments, ensuring all facets of the hotel’s event services are maximized for profitability and client satisfaction. Salary for this position ranges from $56,000 to $66,000 annually, with eligibility for discretionary performance bonuses, but no tipped or service charge income included.
This position demands in-depth knowledge and experience in catering sales, specifically within upscale hotels of similar size and quality. As Catering Sales Manager, you will employ various sales techniques, including telephone prospecting, outside sales calls, site inspections, and creative client presentations. You will utilize forecasting, annual budget understanding, and yield management skills to strategize and maximize revenue opportunities. Your role extends to evaluating competitive market conditions, participating in industry organizations and local community activities, and collaborating closely with the banquet and culinary teams to deliver innovative event solutions.
In this dynamic hospitality role, you will handle a variety of responsibilities from soliciting new accounts to maintaining long-term client relationships, ensuring all catering events are executed flawlessly, and leveraging audio/visual resources as a profit center. Mastery in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Delphi is essential for success. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including guests, team members, and community members is vital. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of catering sales experience
- Experience in similar size and quality hotel environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi software
- Strong sales, revenue management and negotiation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to participate in community and industry activities
- Availability to work on a regular basis
Job Qualifications
- Prior experience in the field of hospitality with specific experience in catering sales is essential
- 1+ year in catering sales required
- Must have experience at a similar size and quality hotel
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Delphi
- Advanced knowledge of sales skills, revenue management, training, and motivation of peers
- Knowledge of hotel features, benefits, and competing hotels within the market
- Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labor relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, hospitality law, and long-range planning
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc
Job Duties
- Solicit new and existing accounts to meet and exceed revenue goals through telephone prospecting, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communication
- Understanding of both monthly forecasting and the annual budget process, as well as pace and productivity
- Understanding of yield management skills and the use of historical data
- Experience evaluating every catering business opportunity to maximize revenue and profitability while achieving customer expectations
- Participate in the research of the competition's products, services and pricing and use it to develop strategic business plans
- Maximize revenue by selling all facets of the hotel to previous, current and potential clients, including room rental, A/V and other revenue generation opportunities
- Experience selling to a variety of market segments
