Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in quality-of-life services, committed to enhancing the well-being and daily experience of the people it serves. With a strong presence across various industries, Sodexo specializes in providing integrated food services, facilities management, and catering solutions that cater to diverse needs in educational institutions, corporate settings, healthcare facilities, and more. The company operates with a vision to create a better everyday for everyone by focusing on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. It maintains a culture that values creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement, encouraging its employees to grow and succeed in a supportive environment. Sodexo embraces diversity and inclusion as fundamental principles, ensuring that all employees are treated fairly, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.

Sodexo is currently seeking a Catering Manager to join its team at a university in the Richmond, VA area. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and enjoys working collaboratively to deliver exceptional culinary experiences across a university campus. The Catering Manager will oversee all aspects of catering operations, including residential dining, retail outlets, and full-service catering for university events and community functions. The position entails close management of resources such as recipes, systems, and catering programs to ensure smooth daily operations. Duties extend to overseeing food production, inventory management, product deliveries, invoice processing, and procurement.

A key responsibility is managing the sales process for catering and conference services, requiring direct interaction with clients to design and execute successful events that meet their needs. Ensuring that employees have the necessary equipment, supplies, and resources is critical to meeting cost controls, deadlines, and overall goals. The Catering Manager also plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining a safe work environment in compliance with regulatory and company standards, reinforcing a commitment to workplace safety under the Zero Harm mindset.

Financial efficiency is another crucial area of focus, as the manager must monitor budgets by controlling labor costs, inventory, equipment, and materials, and adjusting operations as necessary to meet financial objectives. Supervisory responsibilities include delegating tasks, assigning priorities, monitoring standards, and fostering a motivated team environment. Sodexo offers its employees competitive and equitable compensation, with salary packages reflective of an individual’s education, experience, skills, and training.

The comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision care, wellness programs, 401(k) with matching contributions, paid time off, company holidays, career growth opportunities, and tuition reimbursement. Sodexo values continuous learning and career development, encouraging employees to expand their skills and advance within the company.

This role demands excellent communication skills to facilitate coordination between sales, culinary, and front-of-house teams, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment even under last-minute or complex circumstances. Mastery of labor cost control and scheduling via Kronos, keen attention to detail in reviewing catering orders, and positive customer service skills to address client queries within policy guidelines are essential attributes for the successful candidate.

Joining Sodexo means becoming part of an organization committed to social responsibility, sustainability, and improving community well-being. The Catering Manager position offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully while working in a dynamic, inclusive, and supportive environment where your ideas and efforts will be valued.
