Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in food services and facilities management, committed to enhancing the quality of life for the communities and individuals they serve. With a broad portfolio that spans food service, catering, and integrated facility solutions, Sodexo partners with various institutions to deliver exceptional experiences that balance operational excellence with sustainability and innovation. The company fosters a culture of respect and inclusion, valuing diversity and ensuring that employees are treated fairly, with equal employment opportunities irrespective of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics. Sodexo's commitment to ethical business practices, employee development, and community involvement positions it as a preferred partner for institutions across the globe.

Within its Campus Segment, Sodexo acts as a pivotal partner to academic institutions by delivering comprehensive dining and catering services designed to enrich campus life. The role of Catering Manager 3 at Sodexo's University of Southern Maine contract represents an exciting leadership opportunity within this sector. This position is focused on the Portland campus but supports multiple sites including Gorham, Lewiston/Auburn, and the Maine Law School campuses. With a substantial catering program generating over one million dollars in annual revenue, this role takes charge of delivering a range of catering experiences — from routine meetings and student events to formal receptions, plated dinners, and high-profile Board of Trustees functions.

The Catering Manager 3 is a critical leader driving the growth and success of the catering operations across multiple university campuses. This dynamic individual ensures high-quality service delivery by overseeing all aspects of event execution, client satisfaction, and team development. Leading a diverse portfolio of events, the manager acts as the primary liaison with clients to craft personalized catering experiences that exceed expectations while fostering long-term business relationships. Operational responsibilities include coordinating event logistics such as staffing, scheduling, setup, service, and post-event follow-ups to achieve flawless event execution.

Financial stewardship is a key component of the role. The Catering Manager 3 works diligently to manage food and labor costs, monitor budgets, and deliver financial performance aligned with the university and Sodexo's goals. Collaboration with culinary teams enhances menu development, food presentation, and the introduction of innovative catering options that meet evolving client tastes and dietary restrictions. This leadership role also focuses heavily on team development — coaching, training, and inspiring hourly staff to uphold a positive, service-oriented culture.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring strict compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation protocols, allergen awareness, and company standards while maintaining robust inventory controls and efficient purchasing processes. The Catering Manager 3 also supports the scheduling and execution of summer conferences and other special programs that coincide with the university's expanding facilities, further expanding the scope and impact of the catering services provided.

With a culture deeply rooted in hospitality and operational excellence, Sodexo offers this role a platform to significantly influence the growth trajectory of the university's catering services, making a meaningful contribution to campus life and student experiences. Compensation is determined fairly based on the candidate’s education, experience, and skills, supporting their career growth with access to comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional development. This position is ideal for a passionate leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is dedicated to delivering exceptional events and client satisfaction.
