Job Description
The Varsity, a historic establishment deeply woven into Atlanta’s cultural fabric since 1928, stands proud as an iconic American eatery known for its unique all-American food experience in the South. Recognizable by its famous "big red V" sign situated over the downtown connector, The Varsity has evolved into a community staple with multiple restaurant locations serving both locals and visitors. This restaurant chain has become synonymous with classic American comfort food, friendly service, and a lively atmosphere, attracting families, tourists, and food enthusiasts alike. With nearly a century of history, The Varsity combines tradition with innovation to maintain its status as a beloved dining destination. The company prides itself on its commitment to quality, hospitality, and creating memorable customer experiences, embodying a warm and welcoming culture for both guests and employees. The Varsity is dedicated to fostering a positive work environment where team members feel valued, supported, and motivated to contribute to the brand's ongoing success and legacy.
The Catering Driver/Manager role at The Varsity offers a dynamic opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering exceptional catering services that reflect the company’s high standards and brand values. This position holds significant responsibility for the preparation, setup, execution, delivery, breakdown, and cleanup of catering jobs, ensuring that each event runs smoothly and meets or exceeds guest expectations. As the face of The Varsity at catering events, the Catering Driver/Manager must exhibit professionalism, courtesy, and positivity, embodying the company’s promise of creating “The Varsity Experience” for every customer. This involves meticulously loading catering vehicles with the correct food and beverage items, coordinating with internal restaurant staff for seamless scheduling, and managing onsite operations including food setup, service, and guest interactions.
In addition to driving large catering vehicles safely and efficiently, the role requires overseeing staff performance at the venue, acting as both event and crew manager. The Catering Driver/Manager is tasked with resolving guest concerns promptly, handling payments onsite, and maintaining thorough post-event clean up and inventory accuracy. These duties necessitate strong organizational skills, physical stamina to spend long periods standing and moving with frequent bending and lifting, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Importantly, this position requires compliance with all safety, food handling, and regulatory standards, including successful completion of risk management insurance DMV checks and adherence to operational policies.
This is an exempt position reporting to the Head Coach, with work shifts covering lunch, dinner, late night, and weekends as business needs dictate. Individuals in this role are expected to set a high standard in operational knowledge, team leadership, accountability, and customer service excellence. They will also play a proactive role in coaching and mentoring catering team members to elevate overall job performance and uphold The Varsity’s esteemed values and reputation. Ultimately, the Catering Driver/Manager contributes critically to delivering outstanding catering experiences that not only satisfy customers but also foster long-term loyalty and positive word-of-mouth for The Varsity brand.
