Job Description

The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) is a renowned hub for conventions, meetings, sports, arts, and entertainment set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Superior in vibrant Canal Park, Duluth, Minnesota. The DECC encompasses ten diverse venues that host a broad spectrum of events throughout the year. Steeped in cultural richness and community engagement, this establishment not only offers spectacular views of the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge but also boasts superb accessibility to nearby shops, restaurants, hotels, and scenic attractions such as the Duluth Lakewalk and Bayfront Festival Park. The position of Dishwasher & Prep Cook at the DECC offers an excellent opportunity to work in a high-volume, high-quality catering kitchen environment. This part-time, event-driven role (average of 28 hours or less per week) is designed for individuals interested in gaining experience with food handling, preparation, and cooking techniques in a dynamic setting. The position pays an hourly wage of $16.00 and requires adaptability to varying shifts that may include days, afternoons, evenings, and some holidays, scheduled based on event needs. The Dishwasher & Prep Cook is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment while assisting in food preparation tasks like washing, chopping, portioning, and plating. Working within strict food safety guidelines and maintaining a clean, organized workspace is a priority to ensure the quality and safety of food served.

This role does not entail supervisory responsibilities but involves working closely and effectively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations during events. The physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds, and using various senses such as sight, hearing, smell, and taste to carry out duties proficiently in a sometimes noisy and fast-paced environment. Employees must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow directions and meet health, safety, and excellence standards consistently.

The DECC provides uniforms, including shirts, and requires employees to supply black pants or jeans without stains or holes and choose appropriate footwear, preferably skid-proof shoes. This is an at-will employment position, meaning employment can be terminated by either party at any time without cause or notice. Job Duties

  • Wash all wares including pots, pans, flatware, and glasses by hand or using dishwasher
  • correctly place and store clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas
  • stock serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other assigned areas with necessary dishes and utensils
  • assist in cleaning and preparing various foods for cooking and/or serving as directed
  • ensure work areas remain safe, clean, and orderly, adhering to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • assist kitchen staff with cleaning, chopping and portioning food
  • assist with plating meals as necessary
  • assist Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef with additional production as needed
  • report all maintenance problems or other issues to the supervisor as they occur
  • follow accurate food handling guidelines, sanitation, health, and safety protocols
