The Catering Coordinator position at Hy-Vee plays an essential role within the catering department, responsible for upholding the standards that define Hy-Vee's customer service excellence and operational success. This role is non-exempt and focuses on coordinating catering services that deliver fresh, high-quality products at competitive prices, while maintaining exemplary standards in cleanliness, employee relations, and profitability. The Coordinator will be expected to lead the catering team with professionalism, positively influencing the workplace atmosphere by promoting friendliness, teamwork, and customer engagement. Responsibilities include managing orders, coordinating with various departments such as kitchen, bakery, and delicatessen, and ensuring that all catering events meet Hy-Vee’s quality standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one to three years of related work experience
  • ability to solve practical problems and comprehend complex concepts
  • skilled in arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • capable of composing correspondence and following technical manuals
  • strong communication skills
  • physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • visual acuity including depth perception and color vision
  • ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

  • attends department manager meetings and obtains baseline prices
  • figures retail pricing and ensures correct pricing
  • prepares customer bills, extends invoices, posts invoices, and oversees bookkeeping
  • develops and maintains standard catering practices and checks multi catering events for quality control
  • answers and returns phone calls efficiently
  • develops guidelines for department performance in absence of Manager
  • organizes shows and events
  • ensures proper temperatures and storage procedures
  • troubleshoots equipment and ensures maintenance
  • maintains personal hygiene and dress standards
  • adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • reports to work as scheduled
