Job Description

The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is a prestigious and historic private club located in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Established to provide an exclusive and elegant setting for its members, the club combines luxury, comfort, and exceptional service to create memorable experiences for social gatherings, banquets, and meetings. Known for its beautiful waterfront views and top-tier facilities, the club hosts a wide range of events including weddings, corporate meetings, social functions, and celebratory banquets. This venue prides itself on maintaining high standards in both hospitality and event execution, offering a welcoming atmosphere supported by a team of dedicated professionals committed to surpassing members' and guests' expectations.

The role being offered is that of a Catering Sales Manager who will play a critical part in promoting and booking the club's banquet and event facilities. This position focuses on securing new business within the 51-200 guest range while maintaining existing accounts regardless of size. The Catering Sales Manager will be responsible for developing contracts, negotiating service terms, and coordinating with different departments to ensure flawless execution of events. As a representative of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, the Catering Sales Manager must uphold the club’s standards in professionalism, appearance, and service quality. The position requires adherence to formal dress codes and a positive, professional demeanor at all times. The manager will work closely with the Catering Director and other internal teams to meet monthly revenue goals through strategic client engagements and upselling opportunities. Key responsibilities include creating attractive menu presentations, submitting event proposals, and supervising the operational aspects of each event to ensure client satisfaction. Maintaining accurate documentation, such as resumes, Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), and daily reports, is essential to streamline communication between departments and ensure that events run smoothly from planning through to billing.

The Catering Sales Manager will also be expected to join local professional associations such as the National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) or the International Live Events Association (ILEA), supporting professional development and networking opportunities. This role offers a blend of office-based and on-event work, requiring flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to oversee event setup, execution, and closing.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an associate degree, preferably in hospitality or a related field, accompanied by at least three years of experience in the hospitality sector. Strong customer service skills, the ability to collaborate within a team environment, and the physical capability to lift up to 30 pounds, as well as perform tasks that include walking, standing, and climbing stairs during events, are required.
