Job Description

Three Pillars Catering and Concessions is a dynamic catering service provider operating under the umbrella of Campus Dining and Shops, a division dedicated to providing exceptional dining and event experiences across the University at Buffalo campus. This establishment emphasizes quality service, professionalism, and seamless execution of events on and off the university grounds. Three Pillars Catering is recognized for its commitment to delivering outstanding catering services that meet the high standards expected by its diverse clientele, including academic, corporate, and private guests. The team is composed of dedicated professionals who work in a fast-paced environment ensuring every event is executed flawlessly, reflecting the prestigious image of the university.

The role available is for a Catering Employee classified under the probationary full-time union category, offering a casual or part-time hourly position with a starting wage of $16.81 per hour plus gratuity as laid out in the union contract. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic settings and have a passion for delivering top-notch customer service in the foodservice industry. The work schedule varies and requires availability for days, evenings, and weekends, along with flexibility for mandatory overtime during peak event periods and university recesses, where layoffs may also occur.

As a Catering Employee, your primary responsibility will be to ensure exemplary guest service during special events hosted by Three Pillars Catering. This includes setting up, serving, and cleaning up at various catered occasions both on campus and at off-site locations. The job demands attention to detail in banquet service styles such as plated meals, buffets, carving stations, and bartending. Additionally, you will play an essential role in replenishing food products and supplies in compliance with event standards while managing equipment logistics, including transportation, setup, breakdown, and storage.

The position requires a strong dedication to cleanliness, safety, and organization, often involving side work such as cleaning the work environment and restocking equipment. High-profile events, including those at Presidential venues, demand professionalism and impeccable service standards. A valid New York State driver’s license with a clean record is essential to transport staff and catering materials safely to event sites using vehicles such as cars or passenger vans.

This physically intensive role operates within kitchen and event environments that expose employees to heat, steam, fire, kitchen hazards, and fluctuating temperatures in freezers and coolers. Employees must be able to stand and walk for extended hours, demonstrate manual dexterity, and have the ability to lift moderate to heavy weights regularly. The ability to communicate effectively in English and maintain professional appearance and demeanor are critical for success in this role.

The University strives to foster an inclusive, harassment-free workplace that complies with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination. Three Pillars Catering and Campus Dining and Shops uphold these values strictly, ensuring all employees and patrons are treated with respect and dignity. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding career path where individuals can develop skills in catering services while contributing significantly to the university's vibrant event culture.
