Job Description
Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is a dynamic and student-focused organization affiliated with California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. As the largest employer of students on campus, the Foundation provides valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 students annually. The Foundation offers a range of employment opportunities across various fields including technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality management, leadership, and research grants. This diverse employment landscape enables student employees to actively participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and build practical skills directly related to their course of study.
The Foundation also plays a pivotal role in supporting the university community by contributing operational support to nearly 1,100 foundation and scholarship programs every year. This includes major initiatives such as Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. Additionally, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications, collectively dedicating over one million dollars annually to sustain and enhance the Cal Poly Pomona community.
This position at Kellogg West Conference Center and Hotel within Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is for Student Assistants specializing in Events and Facilities. It is designed to provide students an enriching opportunity to develop critical customer service skills, work effectively as part of a team, and foster their professional growth in a real-world hospitality and events environment. Student Assistants will engage closely with leads, supervisors, clients, and staff to ensure seamless and successful event experiences. The role is highly versatile, allowing student workers to take on multiple positions within operations such as audio visual support, event setup, custodial maintenance, and general facility logistics.
Responsibilities include setting up event spaces, operating and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment, monitoring sound, lighting, and projection systems, and ensuring that all technical aspects function smoothly during events like conferences and weddings. Custodial and maintenance duties are also an integral part of the role, encompassing the upkeep of cleanliness, performing light repairs, managing waste and recycling efforts, and maintaining the safety and comfort of all guests and attendees. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to work a regular schedule including evenings and weekends as event demands dictate.
Student Assistants are expected to demonstrate excellent communication, customer service proficiency, problem-solving capabilities, and a willingness to multitask in fast-paced settings. The position not only helps students gain practical skills but also encourages leadership development and a commitment to ethical conduct and inclusivity. Additionally, Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is committed to equal employment opportunities and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, reflecting their dedication to fostering a diverse and supportive workplace environment.
With a strong emphasis on community health and safety, the organization recommends COVID-19 vaccination or exemption declarations for all accessing campus facilities, aligned with CSU system-wide policies. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, ensuring the safety and integrity of the campus community. Overall, this role offers a meaningful platform for student growth within a respected institution dedicated to education, leadership, and community service.
