Job Description
Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, located in Chula Vista, California, is a premier hospitality venue known for its outstanding food and beverage services alongside world-class accommodations. As part of the renowned Gaylord Hotels portfolio under Marriott International, the resort combines luxury, comfort, and exceptional guest experiences, making it a sought-after destination for travelers and event attendees alike. With its impressive convention facilities and diverse dining options, the resort caters to a broad audience including business professionals, tourists, and local visitors. Marriott International's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity employment underpins the company culture, fostering a workplace where talents of all backgrounds can thrive and contribute meaningfully to exceptional service.
This position is for a part-time, non-management role within the Food and Beverage & Culinary department at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center. The role carries a competitive wage of $16.90 per hour and includes eligibility for tips, reflecting the interactive nature of guest service involvement. The opportunity is not remote, requiring presence at the resort to engage directly with guests and team members. The role of a Guest Service Expert is vital in creating memorable and unique experiences for guests beyond simply serving food and beverages. These experts take the initiative to offer a wide range of services that enhance the overall guest experience, ensuring that interactions become an integral part of what guests take away from their visit.
Responsibilities include setting tables, communicating with kitchen personnel, interacting directly with guests, serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness in work and storage areas, and adhering to the company’s quality standards and safety protocols. The role demands physical stamina—standing, walking extensive distances, navigating uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces, handling objects up to 50 pounds, and performing movements that involve bending, twisting, stretching, and crouching. A high level of professionalism is maintained through proper uniform standards, personal appearance, and clear communication skills. The position encourages a proactive and energetic approach, emphasizing a safe and positive work environment.
Educationally, candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent certification such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. While less than one year of related work experience is typical for applicants, there is no supervisory experience requirement nor licensing or certification needed. Marriott International and Gaylord Hotels emphasize a culture of inclusive employment practices, welcoming diverse applicants and providing equal access to job opportunities. This inclusive ethos extends to applicants with disabilities, veterans, and individuals with criminal backgrounds, adhering strictly to applicable laws.
Joining Gaylord Hotels means becoming part of a creative, entrepreneurial, and dedicated team known as STARs, who provide heartfelt and thoughtful service to guests. The brand offers careers that extend beyond traditional hotel roles, with infinite employment possibilities and additional benefits. The collaborative environment nurtures individual growth, fostering the fulfillment of personal and professional purpose while working within an extraordinary global team. This opportunity invites candidates to bring their best work to the table, grow as professionals, and enjoy the multifaceted advantages that come with membership in one of the hospitality industry's most respected portfolios.
