Situated in the vibrant city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, UPMC Presbyterian serves as a critical component of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center system. It offers a comprehensive range of medical services including innovative treatments and cutting-edge neurosurgery care. The hospital environment is fast-paced and dynamic, attracting a dedicated workforce motivated by a mission to improve health outcomes and provide compassionate care to diverse patient populations. As part of a large health system, UPMC Presbyterian fosters a collaborative, inclusive work culture that values teamwork, respect, and continuous learning. Employees at all levels are encouraged to grow professionally while contributing to meaningful patient-centered work.
The Casual Patient & Family Concierge (PFC) role on the Neurosurgery Unit 6D at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital provides a unique opportunity to support patients and their families during critical moments of care. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for helping others and who want to gain healthcare experience within a hospital setting. As a Casual Patient & Family Concierge, you will be instrumental in enhancing the patient experience by ensuring smooth operations and compassionate support from admission to discharge. The role involves a diverse set of responsibilities including greeting and escorting patients and visitors, assisting with meal delivery, transporting patients within the hospital, and replenishing supplies. You will also maintain clean and organized patient and family areas and provide essential non-clinical assistance such as answering phones and responding to call lights.
This position is ideal for candidates interested in starting a healthcare career, offering flexibility with 8 or 12-hour shifts scheduled during day or evening hours. Candidates must complete 36 hours of work over a six-week period, offering a casual employment type that accommodates varying schedules. While the role focuses on supportive and administrative tasks, it is important to note that it does not include clinical duties such as bathing patients, mobility assistance, or administering medical care, making it suitable for those without a clinical background. The role emphasizes compassion, communication skills, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience to all patients and families. Candidates with prior experience in healthcare or customer service settings will find this role aligns well with their skills, though previous healthcare experience is not required. Overall, the Casual Patient & Family Concierge plays a vital role in supporting the healthcare team while ensuring patients and their families feel welcomed, supported, and cared for throughout their hospital stay.
