Amherst College invites applications for the position of Casual Catering Event Supervisor. This is a part-time, casual role offering up to 19 hours of work per week without benefits, with an expected salary range of $20.00 to $22.00 per hour, varying based on education, experience, and other non-discriminatory business criteria. The Casual Catering Event Supervisor plays a pivotal role in supporting Amherst College Dining Services by overseeing the successful execution of catering events ranging from formal banquets and receptions to large campus functions and deliveries. Reporting directly to the Catering Manager and Assistant Catering Manager, the Supervisor works closely with the catering leadership team and front-of-house staff to ensure top-tier hospitality and service. This on-call position requires flexibility, with hours often scheduled during weekdays, evenings, and weekends in alignment with the College's event calendar.
Key responsibilities include leading and training waitstaff, managing guest relations, ensuring operational efficiency and safety standards, and assisting with event logistics, such as setup and breakdown of event spaces. The Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for guests during events, proactively addressing and resolving any customer service issues to maintain a positive experience. They ensure that all food and beverage services are delivered promptly and adhere strictly to safe food handling practices. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 to 3 years of related experience
- Equivalent work experience considered in lieu of minimum education and related experience
- Allergen Awareness Certified as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or able to achieve within six months of employment
- TIP'S Alcohol Certification in Massachusetts or able to achieve within six months of employment
- ServSafe Certification or able to achieve within six months of employment
- Successful completion of required reference and background checks
- Acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
- Valid driver's license and successful completion of Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Lead, train, and supervise service staff during events to maintain high standards of hospitality
- Act as the primary point of contact for guests and proactively manage and resolve any customer conflicts
- Ensure all food and beverage service is delivered in a timely, efficient manner while strictly adhering to safe food handling practices
- Adapt to dynamic scheduling changes on short notice and uphold all policies and procedures established by management
- Assist with the physical setup and breakdown of events, including moving tables, chairs, and banquet equipment
- Maintain clean and organized event spaces, including vacuuming and post-event cleanup
