Job Description

Cask Taproom is a charming neighborhood craft beverage establishment located on College Avenue in Berkeley, nestled between the vibrant Rockridge and Elmwood districts. Known for its boutique retail focus, Cask specializes in small-production and hard-to-find spirits, wines, beers, and bar tools. The store prides itself on offering a curated selection of specialty bottles that appeal to both enthusiasts and industry professionals, making it a unique, local destination for those who appreciate quality craft beverages. The company culture is centered on hospitality, education, and fostering a welcoming environment where guests feel comfortable exploring new tastes and expanding their knowledge about craft beverages. Cask's team members are passionate about delivering excellent customer service, providing knowledgeable recommendations, and enhancing the overall guest experience.

The role of Bartender at the Cask Taproom is integral to the store’s mission of connecting customers with exceptional craft beverages. This position involves working bartending shifts on a Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday schedule between 2 pm and 10:30 pm. The Bartender will serve a rotating selection of curated pours inspired by the specialty items available in the retail store, including craft wines and beers. The primary responsibility is to provide friendly, informed bar service in a casual, craft-focused environment that prioritizes guest engagement and education. Bartenders play a key role in helping customers discover new favorites by sharing detailed product knowledge and offering personalized recommendations based on guests' preferences. This interaction often encourages customers to purchase bottles to enjoy at home, thereby bridging the retail and taproom experiences.

In addition to guest interaction, the Bartender maintains the bar’s cleanliness, organization, and professionalism, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere for all visitors. The position demands an outgoing and adaptable personality, confidence in guest interactions, and enthusiasm for continuous learning about the craft beverage industry. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and basic IT is essential to manage transactions efficiently during shifts. Employees at Cask benefit from a supportive and team-oriented work environment that encourages personal growth and knowledge expansion in spirits, cocktails, wine, and beer. Moreover, the pay structure offers an hourly rate of $19.61 plus tips, along with comprehensive benefits that include access to industry professionals through company events, medical, dental, vision, and commuter benefits for qualifying employees, a 401(k) match, store discounts, and opportunities for formal and informal education, including certification reimbursement. Overall, the bartender role at Cask Taproom is a dynamic and enriching opportunity for those passionate about craft beverages and exceptional guest service in a lively community setting.
