Job Description
The City of Hialeah is a vibrant and diverse municipality located in Florida, renowned for its commitment to providing exceptional services to its residents and visitors. As a public sector employer, the city emphasizes creating a supportive, safe, and inclusive work environment where employees have the opportunity to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact on the community. The City's Human Resources Department plays a pivotal role in fostering this environment, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws alongside collective bargaining agreements and city policies. They champion equality and fairness, maintaining a workplace free from discrimination or harassment of any kind, and uphold a strict drug and alcohol-free employment policy.
This position is for a part-time Cashier under the supervision of the Pool Manager, with a salary range of $14.00 to $50.00 per hour depending on experience and hours worked. The role is integral to the smooth operation of City recreational facilities, particularly pools, parks, and community centers. The Cashier directly interacts with the public, handling multiple forms of payments including cash, credit cards, debit cards, and checks. The incumbent will also assist with inquiries regarding facility rentals such as pavilions or fields, as well as City recreational programs and regulations. This role requires a dependable, detail-oriented individual with excellent customer service skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
The Cashier is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records by reconciling monies against receipts and general ledger accounts. They are tasked with detecting errors in negotiable documents, maintaining adequate cash denominations, and ensuring proper handling and documentation of all transactions. In addition to financial duties, the role involves general reception responsibilities, such as answering telephone inquiries, greeting visitors, and maintaining an organized reception area with current information displayed.
In a broader capacity, the Cashier enforces safety rules in parks and pools, administers basic first aid if necessary, and participates in general maintenance activities to uphold cleanliness and organization of public spaces. Examples include emptying trash bins, cleaning floors and furniture, replenishing restrooms supplies, and ensuring concession areas are tidy.
Applicants must be fluent in English, with Spanish language skills considered a plus. The ideal candidate exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency with cash registers and office equipment, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently. Computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications, data entry, and using office machinery, are essential. Physical endurance is also necessary as the role demands standing for long periods and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, alongside at least one year of cashier experience involving computerized transaction processing. A valid State of Florida driver's license is also necessary due to the nature of the work environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time employment in a municipal setting where they can contribute to their community while developing valuable professional skills.
