The role of Cashier at JCPenney is vital to ensuring exceptional customer service and a smooth sales experience at the point of sale. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for maintaining checkout standards, assisting with general operational tasks including Omnichannel support, merchandise recovery, and inventory processes. Upholding company performance standards related to shrink control and safety is also a critical aspect of the role. You will greet and assist customers with enthusiasm, demonstrate the company’s WORTH behaviors, and actively engage customers to resolve any issues related to credit, rewards, and gift card programs. Promotion of company programs such as Findmore aimed at driving sales and enhancing service will also be part of your responsibilities.
This position involves completing checkout processes including returns and re-ticketing, managing signage and merchandising at checkout areas, and ensuring Impulse Fixtures are stocked and replenished. Effective line management using Mobile Warrior devices is essential. Supporting Omnichannel efforts by assisting with recovery, put backs, and fitting room maintenance will be expected to help maintain store operations. As part of the role, you are also expected to support company initiatives to reduce shrink and improve safety, consistently meeting performance standards outlined by the company’s iCAP program, and contributing to product and service sales, profit, productivity, and attendance metrics.
Success in this role requires problem-solving skills, the ability to make smart decisions that drive sales and customer satisfaction, and a proactive approach to improving the customer experience. Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships with both customers and team members are essential. Job Requirements

- Previous experience as a cashier or in retail preferred
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Basic knowledge of point of sale systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods
