Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration across North America. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company operates over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, as well as an extensive online platform through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Michaels is recognized for offering an extensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing services through its subsidiary Artistree, and seasonal décor that caters to individual and professional creatives alike. With a strong commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and employee development, Michaels fosters a welcoming and supportive environment for its team members and customers. As a prominent player in the specialty retail industry, Michaels continuously innovates to enhance customer experiences both in-store and online, reflecting its mission to be the ultimate creative hub for all things crafting and celebration.
The role of a Store Team Member at Michaels in Temple, TX, is an integral position focused on delivering exceptional customer service and supporting store operations to maintain high standards. Part-time employment is offered in this position, promoting an engaging and dynamic workplace that emphasizes teamwork and individual growth. This role involves responsibilities such as assisting customers in finding products and providing creative solutions, ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience, and handling cash transactions with accuracy. The Store Team Member will also participate in essential store functions like truck unloading, stocking shelves, and maintaining store recovery standards to ensure the store remains well-merchandised and inviting.
Team members are expected to engage customers proactively by promoting Michaels' Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, enrolling customers as needed, and educating them about the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey, which helps improve the store's service quality. Additionally, the role supports omni-channel retailing efforts including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), reflecting the evolving nature of retail and customer preferences. Responsibilities also encompass the merchandise return and 'go back' process, store in-stock optimization, safety and shrink program support, and adherence to standard operating procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and company policy enforcement.
Physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy boxes, bending, reaching, and using ladders to access high shelves. The work environment is primarily public retail space that is climate controlled, with some stock rooms not climate controlled, and occasional outdoor duties such as retrieving shopping carts or unloading trucks. Flexibility is required with work hours that include nights, weekends, and early mornings. Safety is emphasized throughout, especially in areas like the frame shop where specialized equipment such as glass cutters and heat presses are used. Michaels also prioritizes accessibility and accommodates individuals with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive work environment for all team members.
At Michaels, employees benefit from a comprehensive package designed to support their well-being and career progression. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and significant employee discounts. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to full inclusion and reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals. Michaels fosters a culture of respect, positivity, and commitment to its organizational values, encouraging every team member to contribute to a vibrant and creative community dedicated to making crafting accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
