Job Description

The current opening is for full-time Cashier positions located at Maryville University, 650 Maryville University Drive, Saint Louis, MO 63141. The work schedule includes Monday through Friday shifts with varying hours — 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, or 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The pay range is competitive, starting between $15.00 and $18.00 per hour. The Cashier role involves performing cashiering duties such as processing sales transactions, handling cash and other payment methods, maintaining cash drawers, and generating cash reports. Candidates will engage in customer interactions, ensuring a friendly and professional service experience while resolving complaints when necessary. The position may also require performing general food service tasks and maintaining sanitation standards in food preparation, service, and dining areas. Cashiers are responsible for replenishing condiments, beverages, and supplies, stocking pastry cases, and complying with inventory and cash control procedures. This role demands attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to maintain company service and safety standards, including ServSafe compliance. While previous cashier experience is preferred, training is provided for new hires to support their success. Overall, this position is vital in creating a positive dining experience for guests and supporting Fresh Ideas' mission of delivering exceptional food service in innovative and enjoyable ways.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability to perform cashiering duties including cash handling and register operation
  • Previous cashiering experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to maintain sanitation and safety standards
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday with flexible schedules including early morning, afternoon, or evening shifts
  • Able to undergo training
  • Must comply with company policies including drug-free workplace standards
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous cashiering or customer service experience is an asset
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods during shifts

Job Duties

  • Perform sales transactions in a timely fashion
  • Enter all sales into the cash register to ensure accurate recording
  • Make change and accept various forms of payment including declining balance cards
  • Issue receipts to customers
  • Follow procedures for issuing cash refunds
  • Interact with customers and resolve complaints in a friendly manner
  • Maintain change funds and cash receipts ensuring compliance with overage/shortage standards
  • Observe customer purchases and differentiate standard portions
  • Replenish condiments, coffee, beverages, and supplies
  • Keep pastry case stocked
  • Ensure compliance with company service standards, inventory, cash control, sanitation, ServSafe and safety requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned
