The full-time Cashier position is based at Rutgers University, located at 350 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Newark, New Jersey. This role is critical in delivering excellent customer service through accurate and efficient cashiering duties while supporting food service operations. The schedule is Monday through Friday with varying hours, and the pay rate is competitive at $15.92 per hour. This position emphasizes precision in cash handling, customer interaction, and maintaining sanitation standards which are vital to the company’s commitment to safety and quality.

As a Cashier, the employee will be responsible for performing timely sales transactions, entering purchases into the cash register, handling various payment methods including cash and declining balance cards, and managing cash drawer reconciliation. Interactions with customers are expected to be friendly and service-oriented, addressing any complaints or issues effectively to ensure customer satisfaction. In addition to cashiering, the role involves general food service tasks such as replenishing condiments and beverages, stocking pastry cases, and maintaining clean service areas. Compliance with sanitation, ServSafe, and safety regulations is a key requirement to ensure a healthy environment for both customers and associates.

Job Duties

  • perform sales transactions in a timely fashion
  • enter all sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
  • make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
  • issue receipts to customers
  • follow standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
  • interact with customers and resolve customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • manage all assigned change funds and cash receipts ensuring cash drawer compliance
  • observe customer purchases to differentiate standard portions
  • replenish condiments, coffee, beverages and general supplies while maintaining cleanliness
  • stock pastry case
  • ensure compliance with company service standards and cash control procedures
  • maintain sanitation, ServSafe and safety requirements
  • perform other duties as assigned
