As a Cashier at Vallarta Supermarkets, you will play a vital role in ensuring every customer's shopping experience is exceptional. This role is perfect for individuals who are friendly, service-oriented, and take pride in their work. The Cashier is responsible for operating the cash register with speed and accuracy, handling money and balancing the till while maintaining a clean and organized check stand. In addition to transactional duties, this position involves bagging groceries, stocking merchandise, and assisting customers in various ways, including carry-out help for large or heavy orders. Cashiers are expected to follow all company policies, including safety standards and specific procedures for handling products and sales such as WIC, EBT, alcohol, and tobacco.
The position requires physical endurance, including standing for most of the shift, frequent bending, reaching, and the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally. The work environment at Vallarta Supermarkets is fast-paced retail with direct customer interaction, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration. There is a need for flexibility in scheduling as this role may require working afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation for the Cashier position ranges from $17.16 to $20.60 per hour, reflecting the value Vallarta places on this customer-facing role. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous cashier or cash handling experience preferred
- ability to work flexible hours including afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to follow company policies and procedures
- attention to detail and accuracy
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Smile and greet all customers and team members while using Vallarta’s six steps of extraordinary service
- model Vallarta’s core values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork
- operate cash register systems accurately and follow all money handling procedures
- balance the cash drawer at the start and end of shifts within company timeframes
- keep the check stand clean, organized, and free of clutter, store personal items in lockers
- maintain knowledge of all produce codes
- walk the produce department at the start of each shift
- follow rules for WIC, EBT, alcohol, and tobacco sales according to state and company policies
- bag groceries according to Vallarta procedures and customers’ requests
- watch for and properly handle items stored at the bottom of carts
- respond to customer requests
- call for management assistance when needed
- offer carry-out assistance for large or heavy orders
- follow dress code, grooming, jewelry, and nail policies
- maintain safety and housekeeping standards at the front end
- treat coworkers and customers respectfully at all times
- abide by all store rules, company policies, and Employee Handbook
- take rest and meal breaks per company guidelines
- perform other duties as assigned
