Job Description

East Campus Medical Center, located at 6655 Alvarado Road in San Diego, California, is a prominent healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, cutting-edge biomedical research, and comprehensive community services. As part of the UC San Diego Health system, it stands as the only academic health system in the San Diego region, encompassing two university hospitals, the nationally recognized Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute, the Shiley Eye Institute, the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, the county's only Burn Center, and numerous outpatient clinics. This position is for a Senior Clerk or Secretary within the East Campus Dietary Department at East Campus Medical Center. It is a part-time career appointment with a 50% appointment percentage, offering a competitive hourly wage between $25.00 and $28.35. The role operates under the auspices of the CX Contract union, with work shifts that are variable, 8 hours long, spanning Sunday through Saturday. The selected candidate will be entrusted with managing cashier responsibilities in a fast-paced food service environment. Key duties include maintaining full responsibility for all cash and sales transactions, operating Point of Sale systems swiftly and accurately, and ensuring the cleanliness and stock of the retail cafe and coffee stations. The ability to address customer needs with diplomacy, tact, and flexibility is critical, as is a commitment to uphold departmental standards and policies. The role requires the employee to maintain a professional and customer-focused demeanor, ensuring a pleasant experience for visitors and staff.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of cashiering experience, preferably in a food service setting, complemented by excellent communication skills and superb customer service abilities. Proficiency in POS data management systems and adherence to cashiering policies and procedures are essential. The position also mandates the capacity to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English effectively.
