Job Description
JCPenney is a leading retail company known for being the shopping destination for diverse, working American families. Established over 120 years ago, JCPenney has built an iconic American brand that emphasizes inclusivity and accessibility. The company offers a broad portfolio of fashion, apparel, home goods, beauty products, and jewelry through both national and private brands. JCPenney also provides various personal services including salon, portrait, and optical services. With more than 650 stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico and a robust online presence at jcp.com, JCPenney aims to meet customers wherever and however they prefer to shop. Their commitment to the customer experience and community engagement has made them a staple in American retail, focused on connecting with customers through style, quality, and value.
As a Cashier at JCPenney, you play a vital role in shaping the customer service and sales experience. This is an hourly position with a competitive pay range between $14.00 and $17.50 per hour. The role requires a focus on maintaining checkout standards, assisting with key operations such as Omnichannel efforts, recovery, and inventory management, and upholding company performance standards related to shrink control and safety. As the front-line representative of JCPenney, the Cashier is responsible for greeting and assisting customers, promoting company programs like credit, rewards, and gift card initiatives, and driving sales through suggestive selling and customer engagement.
The position goes beyond simply processing transactions; it involves active participation in the overall store operations such as stocking impulse fixtures, participating in annual inventory, maintaining the appearance of the checkout area, and supporting safety and shrinkage control standards. Cashiers use technology including Point of Sale systems operated via mobile devices to manage lines efficiently and enhance the shopping experience. The role demands problem-solving skills, the ability to execute tasks efficiently, and a commitment to excellence in customer service. Effective cashiers at JCPenney are proactive, energetic, and dedicated to continuously improving the customer experience while fostering a positive and respectful environment.
JCPenney provides a comprehensive benefits package for eligible associates including medical, dental, and vision insurance, term life insurance, paid vacation and holiday time, and a 401(k) plan with company matching. Associates also enjoy a discount on JCPenney merchandise. Holiday work is compensated with additional pay, reflecting the company’s appreciation for its associates’ efforts. This opportunity offers stability and growth potential within a reputable, customer-focused retail company that values diversity and inclusion.
