Job Description

JCPenney is a leading retail chain that serves diverse, working American families by providing a wide range of quality products at affordable prices. Established over 120 years ago, JCPenney has become a staple in American shopping culture, offering an extensive assortment of fashion, apparel, home goods, beauty products, and jewelry. The company prides itself on inclusivity and customer-centric values, ensuring that their product offerings meet the everyday needs of their customers while also helping them celebrate special occasions in style. With more than 650 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico, plus a robust online presence, JCPenney is dedicated to serving customers wherever and however they prefer to shop. Their offerings are complemented by personal services such as salons, portrait studios, and optical centers, reinforcing their commitment to a seamless shopping experience. Employing over 50,000 associates worldwide, JCPenney focuses on creating a welcoming and supportive work environment that values diversity, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

The role of a Cashier at JCPenney is integral to the overall customer shopping experience and sales process. This position involves not only handling transactions but also actively engaging customers, providing support through the company’s various sales and reward programs, and maintaining high checkout standards. Cashiers are responsible for greeting customers warmly and assisting them with purchases, returns, and re-ticketing, all while upholding JCPenney’s WORTH behaviors which emphasize respect, ownership, and teamwork. Additionally, Cashiers play an important part in general store operations such as Omnichannel support, inventory recovery, and maintaining fitting room standards. Ensuring that checkout areas are well-stocked and merchandised properly, particularly impulse fixtures, is another key responsibility.

Performance in this role is measured against standards related to shrink management, safety, productivity, and customer service excellence. Cashiers are also expected to support company initiatives aimed at reducing loss and enhancing safety within the store environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $14.00 to $17.50, reflective of experience and performance, and is typically a full-time or part-time hourly role within JCPenney’s retail operations.

JCPenney offers a competitive benefits package to eligible employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, term life insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching. Moreover, associates receive an exclusive discount on merchandise, making it a rewarding employment opportunity for those passionate about retail and customer service. The company emphasizes career growth and professional development, providing a supportive environment for associates to thrive and advance their careers within the organization. JCPenney’s longstanding reputation as an iconic American brand and its commitment to community engagement make it an excellent workplace for individuals seeking stability, competitive pay, and meaningful work in retail.
