The role centers around customer service excellence, cash management, and maintaining the store's operational standards. The individual in this position is responsible for performing multiple tasks simultaneously, supporting the team in creating a safe, clean, and inviting environment. Key responsibilities include operating the point of sale (POS) system, handling various payment types, and accurately managing sales transactions. Handling age-restricted sales like alcohol, tobacco, and lottery tickets with compliance to company policies and legal requirements is a critical element of the position.

In addition to transactional duties, the employee participates in promotional activities, practices suggestive selling, and contributes to sales goals, enhancing customer relationships and driving store performance. The role also involves comprehensive store upkeep tasks such as stocking shelves, receiving deliveries using proper techniques, cleaning the store inside and out, and maintaining the equipment used daily. Attention to detail in food preparation, including brewing coffee and managing the condiment bar, is part of the responsibilities, supporting the food service aspect of the business.

Safety is a paramount focus in this position, requiring the ability to act in accordance with safety procedures and emergency protocols. The employee must regularly inspect perishable goods to ensure freshness and proper rotation, keep the store free from hazards like litter and spills, and maintain hygiene in restrooms and food preparation areas. The role occasionally involves working different shifts, including barista and night shifts, which call for additional cleaning and preparation duties to ensure store readiness for customers.

Applicants must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, basic math ability, and computer competency, particularly with PDI Enterprise POS systems. Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are essential. Physical demands include stamina for standing or walking through the shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and pushing equipment. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, along with a Food Handlers Permit if mandated by the store's location.
