We are currently seeking dedicated and energetic individuals to join our team as Cashiers. The Cashier role is a vital front-line position responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of customer sales transactions at the store's registers. This position ensures the proper handling of cash and electronic payments while safeguarding company assets. Cashiers assist customers as needed, ensuring a positive shopping experience through friendly interaction and prompt service. As a Cashier at Fresh Thyme, you will work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where attention to detail and excellent customer service are paramount.
This role involves adhering to all procedural guidelines set by the Front End Department, including handling payments by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits, and issuing receipts, refunds, credits, or rain checks. You will be expected to keep checkout areas clean and organized, actively promote store promotions, and maintain knowledge of current sales and produce quality. Flexibility in working varied hours and days as business dictates is required, along with a positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency degree
- 1-2 years grocery retail experience preferred
- previous experience in natural foods industry is a plus
- strong customer service skills
- ability to handle cash and electronic payments accurately
- good communication skills
- ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
- flexibility to work varied hours
- basic knowledge of math and weights and measures
- ability to use a Point of Sale System (POS)
- capability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency degree
- preferred 1-2 years grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures
- previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus
- must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times
- ability to adapt to the ever-changing high volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team
- must have capacity to take initiative when problems arise
- flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations
- advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- excellent written communication and documentation skills
- excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross functionally with peers and senior management
- must have knowledge with MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- ability to multitask and have excellent organizational skills
- ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates
- must have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures
- demonstrate ability to use a Point of Sale System (POS)
Job Duties
- Walks the store prior to each shift to ensure awareness of promotional and sale items
- computes bill, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due
- receives payment by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits
- issues receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks or change due to customers
- operates cash register by passing price coded items across electronic scanner to record price, enter in PLU or UPC manually, compile printed list, and display cost of customer purchase, tax, and rebates on monitor screen
- greets customers entering store and responds promptly to customer needs
- maintains clean and orderly checkout areas
- issues coupons and rain checks
- performs other duties as assigned
