The role available at California Fish Grill is that of a Cashier, a crucial position that supports the restaurant's day-to-day operations during serving hours. This is an hourly, non-exempt position responsible for managing cash and credit card transactions efficiently and accurately. Cashiers are the first point of contact for guests and play a key role in setting a positive tone for the dining experience. Responsibilities include greeting guests, taking and repeating food orders, charging the correct prices, processing payments, and handling gift cards. Attention to detail is vital to avoid discrepancies and ensure all transactions are processed correctly.
Additionally, cashiers must maintain up-to-date knowledge of the restaurant’s menu and pricing. They are trained to identify counterfeit money and take proper actions if encountered. An essential part of the role includes verifying age requirements before serving alcoholic beverages to ensure compliance with state laws. Personal appearance and hygiene are emphasized as representatives of the restaurant, and the work area must be kept neat and clean throughout the shift.
Beyond transactional duties, cashiers contribute to the overall guest satisfaction by interacting promptly and courteously. The position requires the ability to efficiently make order corrections and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Working within California Fish Grill’s safety protocols and policies, including the confidentiality of guest data and compliance with laws regarding workplace behavior, is mandatory. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years related work experience
- Prior experience related to cashier or food service positions
- Valid ServSafe® or other approved Food Handler Certification
- Ability to perform multiple tasks
- Frequent standing, reaching with hands and arms, stooping and kneeling
- Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced environment
- Must be of legal age to serve alcohol
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Awareness of and adherence to company policies and procedures related to job safety
- Proficient reading and writing skills
- Proficient interpersonal and communicative skills
- Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
- Manual dexterity
- Auditory and visual skills
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Prior experience related to cashier or food service positions
- Valid ServSafe® or other approved Food Handler Certification
- High level of integrity and honesty
Job Duties
- Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
- Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
- Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant’s menu and prices
- Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
- Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
- Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
- Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
