The role of a Cashier at California Fish Grill is an hourly, non-exempt position dedicated to processing cash and credit card transactions accurately during the restaurant's serving hours. This position plays a crucial role in guest interactions, requiring a friendly yet efficient approach to taking and confirming orders, handling payments, and ensuring a smooth and pleasant customer experience. The Cashier is accountable to the Restaurant General Manager and Training General Manager and is expected to perform duties in compliance with company policies and safety regulations. Employees in this role are expected to uphold California Fish Grill's mission, values, and vision while maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.

In this role, the Cashier is responsible for greeting guests, taking accurate food orders, processing payments, managing gift card requests, and verifying age for alcoholic beverage sales in compliance with state laws. The position demands familiarity with the restaurant's menu and pricing, the ability to handle corrections promptly, and vigilance in detecting counterfeit currency. Cleanliness and maintenance of work areas and equipment are also essential. The Cashier supports teamwork within the restaurant, cooperates with co-workers, and participates in safety and confidentiality protocols to protect both customers and the business.

This position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure in pressure situations. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills, proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) and credit card equipment, and the capacity to follow company guidelines regarding safety and guest service. The Cashier must also be physically capable of performing the job duties, which include standing for extended periods and lifting items up to 50 pounds. Job Requirements

  • Ability to properly charge the correct price for food and drink item ordered in an effective, professional manner
  • Ability to operate a POS

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Maintain composure when dealing with staff and occasionally under conditions of urgency and/or pressure situations
  • Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures as directed by the Restaurant Manager
  • Ability to be aware of and follow company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
  • Manual dexterity
  • Auditory and visual skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Prior experience in related to cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurants menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
  • Report to work in a neat and clean uniform
  • Well-groomed hair and personal hygiene are essential
  • Keeps work area neat and clean at all times
  • Cleans and maintains equipment used
  • Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
