The position available is that of a Cashier, an hourly, non-exempt role vital to the seamless operation of the restaurant. This role involves enacting cash and credit card transactions for menu items purchased by guests during daily serving hours. The Cashier works closely under the guidance of the Restaurant General Manager and the Training General Manager, ensuring an efficient, accurate, and friendly transaction process. This position requires high attention to detail in handling payments, including the ability to detect counterfeit money and assure compliance with age restrictions when serving alcoholic beverages.
Key responsibilities include greeting guests warmly, processing their food orders accurately, repeating orders to confirm, charging the correct prices for each menu item, handling cash and credit payments, and providing precise change as needed. Cashiers must be well-versed in the restaurant’s current menu and pricing, capable of managing gift card transactions, and able to make quick corrections to guest orders. The role demands excellent guest interaction, ensuring every visitor’s satisfaction and a positive dining experience.
In addition to transactional duties, Cashiers maintain a neat and clean work area, adhere to uniform and personal hygiene standards, and participate in ongoing in-service trainings. Safety and sanitation practices are critical, and the Cashier supports company goals related to safe work habits, confidentiality of guest information, compliance with state and federal laws, and harassment-free workplace policies. Teamwork and communication skills are essential to coordinate effectively with co-workers and supervisors, and to uphold the restaurant’s mission, values, and vision.
Candidates must be capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, displaying adaptability, initiative, and strong decision-making skills. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, kneeling, and other routine restaurant activities involving manual dexterity and sensory skills.
This position requires a high school diploma or GED with 1-2 years of related experience, preferably in cashier or food service roles. Valid ServSafe or equivalent food handler certification is mandatory, along with a high level of integrity and honesty. The working conditions reflect a busy restaurant environment where flexibility to work beyond regular hours may be necessary to meet operational needs.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-2 years related work experience
- Prior experience as cashier or in food service
- Valid ServSafe or Food Handler Certification
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to stand and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending and stooping
- Must be of legal age to serve alcohol according to state regulations
- Ability to detect counterfeit money

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Prior experience related to cashier or food service positions
- Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
- High level of integrity and honesty
- Proficient reading and writing skills
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
- Ability to operate a POS
- Ability to operate credit card equipment
- Ability to interact with guests effectively
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Maintain composure under urgency or pressure
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions as directed by the Restaurant Manager
- Ability to be aware of and follow company policies related to job safety
Job Duties
- Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
- Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
- Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill restaurant’s menu and prices
- Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
- Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
- Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
- Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
- Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
- Report to work in a neat and clean uniform
- Well-groomed hair and personal hygiene are essential
- Keep work area neat and clean at all times
- Clean and maintain equipment used
- Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
