The retail associate position at G&M is a full-time, hourly role reporting directly to the Store Manager. This role is geared toward individuals who are capable of multitasking and working efficiently within a team to uphold the company's high standards. The responsibilities center around delivering exemplary customer service, ensuring the safety of all staff and customers, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. The associate operates point-of-sale (POS) systems with accuracy, manages various transactions including credit card processing, manufacturer coupon redemption, tobacco and alcohol sales, and also assists in stock management and merchandising.

Additionally, this role demands active participation in sales promotions and customer engagement strategies such as suggestive selling and building strong customer relations. The retail associate must be vigilant about regulatory compliance, adhering to all city, county, state, and federal laws relevant to store operations. The position also entails various cleaning and maintenance duties such as sanitizing surfaces and equipment, managing restrooms, and organizing backroom supplies to maintain an inviting shopping atmosphere.

Further responsibilities include food preparation tasks like brewing coffee, maintaining condiment bars, and handling hot food items under the guidance of the Store Manager, which emphasizes the varied and dynamic nature of this role. During certain shifts, such as Barista or night shifts, the associate steps into additional roles, ensuring smooth operations and cleanliness throughout the store.

Job Duties

  • Take measures to preserve the safety of employees and all others in the work location
  • operate POS (cash register and fuel console) precisely and accurately manage money and other types of payment received for product sold
  • enter all transactions into the register, accept payments and account for all funds
  • conduct sales transactions accurately and quickly
  • perform service transactions in accordance with company policy including credit card transactions, coupon redemption, vendor check-in, alcohol, tobacco and lottery sales, and fast-food sales
  • check identification for alcohol, tobacco, and lottery products according to company policy
  • actively participate in all sales promotions and campaigns
  • practice suggestive selling and build customer relations
  • review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations
  • maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and name tag
  • prepare hot food items in accordance with current procedures
  • ensure the store is free of litter and spills and all equipment is sanitized and in working condition
  • sweep floors and spot mop as needed
  • wipe down Fuel Delivery area and pumps, change outside water/trash
  • ensure restroom is spot checked and restocked
  • perform regular cleaning of counter surfaces, store equipment, trash, and other assigned duties
  • front face cooler and Hydrazone as well as dust merchandise
  • clean station windows and organize backroom supplies
  • receive product deliveries from vendors using proper lift techniques
  • stock shelves with new merchandise
  • wipe down counters, food warmers, microwaves and keep all trays clean
  • restock merchandise to avoid sparse shelves
  • conduct daily inspections of perishable products to check freshness and proper rotation
  • follow company policy on safety and emergency procedures
  • act as backup cashier and conduct sales transactions during Barista shifts
  • brew fresh coffee regularly and maintain condiment bar
  • deep clean during night shifts including drains and restroom
  • prepare for morning rush by ensuring coffee and creamer machines are clean and stocked
