The Cashier role at California Fish Grill is a vital position responsible for managing all cash and credit transactions related to menu items purchased by guests during daily service hours. The position is hourly and classified as non-exempt, reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager and Training General Manager. Successful candidates will be expected to provide courteous and efficient service while handling financial transactions accurately and ensuring guests receive their orders correctly. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting. Employees are expected to maintain compliance with food safety standards, restaurant policies, and legal requirements, including age verification for alcoholic beverages and counterfeit money detection.

The Cashier is tasked with greeting guests, processing orders, operating the POS system and credit card equipment, and facilitating gift card transactions. The ideal candidate must stay well-informed about the menu, prices, and any changes to maintain accuracy during service. Additionally, they must uphold high standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene, wear the designated uniform, and maintain their work area and equipment in a tidy state. The position also involves safety responsibilities such as reporting and correcting unsafe work conditions and following established safety protocols.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education
  • Prior experience in cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures as directed by the Restaurant Manager
  • Ability to be aware of and follow company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
  • Maintains personal hygiene and neat appearance
  • Able to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain composure in urgent or pressure situations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Prior experience in cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
  • Ability to operate a POS
  • Ability to operate credit card equipment

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant's menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
