The role of a Cashier at California Fish Grill is pivotal in ensuring smooth and efficient guest transactions during daily operations. This hourly, non-exempt position involves handling cash and credit card transactions for various menu items ordered by guests. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for greeting guests warmly, accurately processing their food orders, managing payment transactions, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout their visit. The Cashier must be familiar with the complete menu and current pricing, capable of operating point of sale (POS) systems and credit card equipment, and able to detect counterfeit currency to maintain the integrity of all financial exchanges.

In addition to transactional duties, the Cashier plays a key role in upholding the restaurant's standards of cleanliness, uniform compliance, and professional grooming. The position requires constant interaction with guests in a friendly and fast-paced manner, swiftly addressing and correcting any order discrepancies to enhance the guest experience. This role demands strong communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, multitasking capabilities, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Prior experience in cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • Ability to properly charge the correct price for food and drink item ordered
  • Ability to operate a POS
  • Ability to operate credit card equipment
  • Ability to interact with guests effectively
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain composure under pressure
  • Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
  • Ability to be aware of and follow company policies and procedures related to job safety
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
  • Manual dexterity
  • Auditory and visual skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Prior experience in cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant’s menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
