The role of a Cashier at California Fish Grill is crucial in enhancing the guest experience by accurately processing cash and credit card transactions for food and beverage purchases. This hourly, non-exempt position involves greeting guests warmly, taking and repeating orders to ensure accuracy, and handling payments promptly and correctly during daily restaurant operations. Reporting to the Restaurant General Manager or Training General Manager, the Cashier is responsible not only for transaction accuracy but also for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the menu and prices, enabling quick and efficient service.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, operate point-of-sale (POS) systems, and manage credit card processing equipment effectively. They must also be capable of identifying counterfeit currency, verifying age for alcohol sales per state regulations, and correcting guest orders swiftly and professionally. Cleanliness and personal grooming are essential, with expectations for a neat uniform and strong personal hygiene standards.
In addition to transactional duties, the Cashier plays an active role in upholding the company's core values and operational standards. This includes supporting safety protocols, adhering to confidentiality requirements related to guest data, and participating in teamwork initiatives to foster a supportive work environment. The Cashier also contributes to the upkeep of the work area by cleaning equipment and adhering to rigorous food safety and sanitation standards.
This position requires a flexible work schedule, with the possibility of working beyond regular hours to meet guest needs and maintain operational effectiveness. The working environment is fast-paced, demanding the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure under pressure. Physical aspects of the job include frequent standing, reaching, stooping, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, which necessitates a good level of physical fitness.
Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, with 1-2 years of related experience in cashiering or food service. A valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification is required, along with a high level of integrity and honesty. Job Requirements
- Ability to perform multiple tasks
- Frequent standing, reaching with hands and arms, stooping and kneeling
- Maintain composure when dealing with staff and occasionally under conditions of urgency and/or pressure situations in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to properly charge the correct price for food and drink item ordered in an effective, professional manner
- Ability to operate a POS
- Ability to operate credit card equipment
- Ability to interact with guests effectively
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Maintain composure when dealing with staff and occasionally under conditions of urgency and/or pressure situations
- 100 percent - Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe
- Hazards include cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns
- Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures as directed by the Restaurant Manager
- Ability to be aware of and follow company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations
- Proficient reading and writing skills
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
- Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
- Manual dexterity

Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Prior experience in related cashier or food service positions
- Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
- High level of integrity and honesty
Job Duties
- Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
- Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
- Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant's menu and prices
- Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
- Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
- Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
- Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
- Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
- Report to work in a neat and clean uniform
- Well-groomed hair and personal hygiene are essential
- Keeps work area neat and clean at all times
- Cleans and maintains equipment used
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
