The restaurant is currently seeking a dedicated Cashier to join its dynamic team. This is an hourly, non-exempt position vital to maintaining the smooth financial operations of the restaurant during serving hours. The Cashier is accountable to the Restaurant General Manager and Training General Manager, reflecting the importance of accuracy and professionalism in handling cash and credit card transactions. The role requires a thorough understanding of the menu and pricing at California Fish Grill, as well as the ability to interact positively and efficiently with guests, ensuring their satisfaction and loyalty.

In this role, the Cashier is responsible for greeting guests warmly, taking and repeating food orders accurately, charging the correct prices, and managing cash and credit card payments effectively. They will be adept at enacting gift card transactions and making necessary order corrections quickly. The position demands an awareness of safety protocols, counterfeit money detection, age verification for serving alcohol, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Attention to personal grooming and hygiene is also essential.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Frequent standing, reaching with hands and arms, stooping and kneeling
  • Maintain composure when dealing with staff and occasionally under conditions of urgency and/or pressure situations in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures as directed by the Restaurant Manager
  • Ability to be aware of and follow company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less
  • Manual dexterity
  • Auditory and visual skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years related work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Prior experience in related cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant’s menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
