The Cashier position at California Fish Grill is pivotal to ensuring a seamless customer experience throughout the restaurant’s daily serving hours. This role involves enacting cash and credit card transactions accurately for guest purchases, greeting guests with friendliness, taking and repeating food orders, and processing payments efficiently. The cashier must maintain a thorough knowledge of the current menu offerings and prices to provide accurate charges, handle gift card transactions, and detect counterfeit currency confidently. Beyond transactional responsibilities, the role requires a strong focus on customer satisfaction by addressing guest needs promptly and professionally. Cashiers are expected to verify age requirements when serving alcoholic beverages, uphold restaurant cleanliness standards, and adhere to dress code and personal hygiene guidelines strictly.

In addition to transaction duties, the cashier supports California Fish Grill’s mission, values, and vision by cooperating with safety protocols, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive data such as guest credit card information, and fostering an inclusive, harassment-free work environment. The cashier participates actively in teamwork initiatives, communicates tactfully during sensitive situations, and promotes positive public relations with guests and the community. The position requires flexibility to work beyond regular hours when needed, and includes operational responsibilities like cleaning and maintaining equipment, completing in-service training requirements, and reporting unsafe conditions or other relevant issues to management.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong competencies in restaurant operations, food safety and sanitation, guest service quality, and safe work habits. Essential skills include proficient operation of POS and credit card equipment, ability to multi-task effectively, maintain composure under pressure, and strong interpersonal communication. Physical requirements, such as the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and manual dexterity, are integral to the role. The ideal cashier is someone who takes initiative, adapts well to fast-paced environments, works collaboratively with the team, makes sound decisions, and consistently focuses on guest satisfaction while optimizing work processes to enhance operational efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience
  • Prior experience related to cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved Food Handler Certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurant’s menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
