Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful interactions with customers and co-workers
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to read and complete written forms
- Must be able to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, company policies, and procedures
- Ability to operate check stand equipment
- Ability to manage high-stress situations and handle difficult customers
- Food safety/handlers card and tobacco/alcohol certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or customer service experience beneficial but not required
- Ability to operate cash registers and scanners
- Effective communication skills
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to learn and memorize product locations and pricing
- Knowledge of cash handling policies
- Ability to follow safety and compliance regulations
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- Maintains product knowledge, ensures proper pricing and stock rotation
- Maintains clean and properly stocked check stand area
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout or customer service counter
- Follows all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
- Engages with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist transaction accuracy
- Monitors multiple transactions and verifies payments
- Prioritizes safety of employees and customers by reporting concerns
