Nueces Center for Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities (MHID) is a committed public service organization dedicated to improving the lives of residents in Nueces County who are living with mental illness and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. Serving over 10,000 individuals annually, MHID provides a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral health care outpatient services, including counseling, training, employment assistance, housing support, homeless outreach, and specialized children’s mental health care programs. The role available at MHID is a full-time, hourly position paying $22.98 per hour, with a 40-hour workweek and bi-weekly pay schedule. This position involves performing psychosocial rehabilitation planning and instructional work focused on delivering rehabilitative training and case management services to a diverse caseload of adults with serious emotional, behavioral, or mental disorders. Working under the supervision of the ACT Team Leader, the incumbent will coordinate and provide support services that help clients maintain stability within their community while promoting self-help, self-care, and skill acquisition. This includes crisis prevention and intervention, development of individualized rehabilitation plans, and documentation of client progress.

This role requires regular community engagement and home visits, with minimal office time. The work is centered around fostering recovery and independence for clients, incorporating trauma-informed care and clinical competencies standardized and approved by the agency. The individual will be responsible for collecting and preparing case data to evaluate client eligibility for financial, medical, and social services. Ultimately, this position plays a crucial role in guiding clients towards attaining optimal functional levels and participating as active members of their communities.

MHID values professionals with educational backgrounds in psychology, social work, nursing, counseling, rehabilitation, or related fields, combined with experience in social or rehabilitative services or in teaching and counseling persons with disabilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of assessment techniques, client care, treatment methods, and developmental programs. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, the ability to develop and implement individualized teaching plans, and the capacity to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential to succeed in this role. Reliable transportation and a valid Texas driver’s license are mandatory as personal vehicle use for work is a common requirement.
