Job Description

Carriage Glen is a beautiful, upscale 55+ Independent Living Community located in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is part of the Transforming Age network of communities and affiliates, which is widely recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality living environments for older adults. Carriage Glen is currently seeking a Chef to join its team, offering a rewarding and purpose-driven role in a supportive and appreciative workplace. The Chef will play a critical role in preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for the residents, many of whom have specific dietary needs. The position requires careful attention to food safety standards, food preparation, and working closely with kitchen team members and the broader Carriage Glen staff.

As a Chef at Carriage Glen, you will prepare assigned stations during shifts and work under the direction of lead cooks or sous chefs. Your responsibilities will include preparing individual components of various entrées and food items while adhering to residents' individual dietary restrictions. Maintaining compliance with state, federal, and Department of State Health Services regulations regarding kitchen food safety and sanitary handling is essential. You'll also contribute to fostering professional vendor relationships and ensure that the kitchen environment remains safe and efficient. This role requires flexibility with scheduling, including occasional weekends and other shifts as needed, making it well-suited for candidates who are adaptable and dedicated to delivering excellent food service.

Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Prior experience as a cook/sous chef/grill cook (1-2 years preferred)
  • Ability to prepare high quality food for residents
  • Flexibility with schedule may be required, with the occasional need to work Saturdays/Sundays, and other days/shifts as needed
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with food and equipment vendors as needed
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with staff and residents
  • Ability to prepare therapeutic/modified diets
  • CPR and first aid training may be required per state/local guidelines
  • Successful completion of recognized food safety course, as required by state/local guidelines
  • Completion of background check, drug screen, and/or pre-employment tasks such as fingerprint and physical may be required in certain locations state/local requirements
  • The ability to push/pull/carry up to 30lbs

Job Duties

  • Prepare assigned stations for shift
  • Under direction of lead cook/sous chef, prepare individual components of various entrees and food items, adhering to the individual dietary restrictions of residents
  • Maintain kitchen food safety and sanitary food handling in compliance with State, Federal, and DSHS regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
