Job Description
Carl's Jr. is a renowned fast-food restaurant chain known for its iconic burgers and commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Established as part of Carl Karcher Enterprises, Carl's Jr. continues to expand its footprint across various locations, offering vibrant, fast-paced environments where team spirit and operational excellence go hand in hand. At the location at 1236 23rd St. SE in Salem, Carl's Jr. fosters a supportive community where employees are encouraged to grow professionally and personally. As part of a forward-thinking franchise group, Team JCK LLC and KBR Group LLC uphold Carl's Jr.'s standards and are eager to welcome energetic, motivated individuals who thrive in busy settings and enjoy being part of a team that treats each other like family.
The Shift Leader role at Carl's Jr. in Salem is a dynamic leadership opportunity designed for individuals who love to keep things moving and bring out the best in their colleagues. This role is critical for ensuring smooth operations during shifts, maintaining brand standards, and cultivating a positive atmosphere for both the team and guests. A Shift Leader will not only oversee daily activities but also set the tone for each shift, making sure every detail from food quality to customer service exceeds expectations. This position offers excellent room for career growth, with robust leadership training and pathways to restaurant management roles if desired.
Starting at $17 per hour, the job offers competitive pay complemented by generous perks such as free meals during shifts, tasty employee discounts, flexible scheduling, paid time off, and referral bonuses. Medical and dental insurance options are available for those who qualify, alongside a 401(k) plan with a company match of up to 4%. Additional benefits include access to employee assistance programs from day one, scholarship opportunities up to $10,000, and an in-house 'Cares Fund' to support team members in times of need.
The shift leader is a hands-on leader expected to lead by example across all operational areas—front counter, drive-thru, kitchen, and prep—while balancing staff management and labor cost monitoring. Opening and closing duties follow precise checklists to ensure nothing is overlooked, and team members receive quality training and support during each shift. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in organization, efficiency, and creating a fun yet productive work environment. The company fosters a structured setting with clear expectations, supportive managers, and a culture where teamwork and social connections are valued. This is not a desk job — it is one that demands energy, responsiveness, and a genuine passion for leading a busy restaurant team.
Candidates interested in this role should have a valid Food Handler's Permit or be willing to acquire one within 30 days. Basic math skills for tasks like register operation, scheduling, and shift planning are required. Physical readiness to stand for an entire shift and lift up to 50 pounds is necessary. The ideal Shift Leader enjoys working in a clean and organized workspace, is at least 18 years old, and possesses the ability to inspire and support others effectively. At Carl's Jr., the goal is not just to fill positions but to cultivate a family-like team environment, develop future general managers, and nurture long-term careers within the restaurant industry.
