Job Description
The Carhop position is a dynamic role within the fast-paced environment of a restaurant ensuring stellar guest service and operational standards are met. This position specifically involves serving food products directly to customers, frequently utilizing roller skates if qualified as a Skating Carhop. The establishment operates in the hospitality and food service industry, focusing on delivering an enjoyable dining experience through convenient and friendly service at the customers' vehicles or outdoor seating areas.
As a Carhop, you are the vital link between the kitchen and our guests, carrying trays with food and drinks, ensuring that each order meets the company's quality, appearance, and operational standards before delivery. This role demands excellent balance and the physical capability to carry trays weighing up to 25 pounds, coupled with the ability to respond quickly and politely to guest needs and requests. Carhops are expected to uphold company standards of cleanliness and sanitation, engaging regularly in cleaning duties such as mopping, sweeping, dishwashing, and sanitizing food preparation areas to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
The position requires flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, adapting to the ebb and flow of restaurant demand. Beyond direct guest service, Carhops assist with payment processing—handling transactions swiftly and accurately while managing change. They also clear trays and trash from guest vehicles and surrounding areas to ensure a clean and inviting space.
Additional responsibilities include inventory support, such as moving and stocking food products up to 50 pounds, and reporting any employee or guest related issues to the Manager on Duty (MOD). Skating Carhops have specialized training to perform their duties efficiently while on roller skates, adding a unique skill component to the role. The position emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and excellent communication between Carhops and their supervisors.
Working as a Carhop exposes employees to a variety of physical activities such as continuous standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and in some cases, the exciting challenge of performing on roller skates. The restaurant environment includes frequent exposure to heat, hot liquids, cold storage areas, and variable outdoor weather conditions, requiring employees to be physically fit and adaptable.
This is a nonexempt position reporting directly to the Manager on Duty, highlighting the importance of adherence to workplace rules and operational procedures. The role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in the food and beverage industry, engage closely with customers, and work in a lively, team-oriented setting. It is ideal for those who enjoy active work, customer interaction, and contributing to a memorable dining experience through quality service and diligence.
The organization values dedication, punctuality, and a positive attitude to meet the demands of an ever-changing work schedule. Candidates interested in becoming a Carhop should be enthusiastic about delivering superior service, maintaining high sanitary standards, and embracing the physical nature of the job while offering a friendly and efficient customer experience.
